We‘re very aware that it may sound lightly, however that‘s the only honest way there is to portray the story behind this project. The day we started developing it we found ourselves creating some sort of wonderland for our extraordinary clients.
The outcome of our work is based on each project‘s specific and unique conditions, it‘s context and the client‘s aspirations. V cottage is a minimal cottage up the hill in a very green part of Kaunas, Lithuania. Therefore, we aspired to create a space that embraced the majestic setting of the hill and it‘s revealing panorama beyond. Thus the project is tranquil on one side, however has it‘s own character on the other.
Although we started working at the very early stage of the project, we obtained the space with soulless steel construction frame of the stairs which completely didn‘t conform to the building itself moreover in our or the client‘s vision of their future home to be. The stair frame could not be removed as it is one of the holding parts of the building. So therefore, instead of hiding we decided to emphasize it by giving the staircase a completely different form and aesthetics. And so the bespoke sculptural meringue stairs that connect this three-storey cottage became the centerpoint of the interior and brought out the beauty of subtleness. As you stray between the levels of the building the staircase offers a little surprise in each storey. Now, isn‘t that how Alice felt in her own Wonderland?
Then everything else unfolded itself around organically. Less is more, is our philosophy, thus functional spatial layout, earthy tones that predominate the space and the use of natural materials, frankly, are the key characteristics to our every project.
